Discover more about Shin Umeda City

Shin Umeda City is a distinctive urban space in Osaka, Japan, most famous for the Umeda Sky Building and its 'Floating Garden Observatory'. Completed in 1993, this complex integrates modern architecture with green spaces, offering visitors a multifaceted experience. The Umeda Sky Building itself consists of two 40-story towers connected at the top, 173 meters high, by the circular Floating Garden Observatory. The Umeda Sky Building was envisioned by architect Hiroshi Hara as a 'City of Air,' initially planned with four interconnected towers. The economic downturn of the 1980s led to a revised plan featuring the two towers seen today. The Floating Garden Observatory provides 360-degree views of Osaka, with an open-air deck where visitors can experience the city's atmosphere. Below the observatory, the building features a restaurant floor designed to evoke the atmosphere of early 20th-century Osaka. Shin Umeda City also includes features like the Shin Umeda City General Information Center, which assists tourists, movie theaters, art museums, restaurants and event plazas. The base of the Umeda Sky Building incorporates gardens and water features, offering a tranquil escape within the urban environment. The building's design also integrates feng shui principles, with specific arrangements of elements around the area. The Umeda Sky Building has been recognized internationally, including being listed as one of the top 20 buildings in the world by a British publication.
