Tomogashima: Japan's 'Castle in the Sky'

Tomogashima, meaning 'Friend Islands,' is a cluster of four islands – Okinoshima, Jinoshima, Torajima, and Kamishima – located in the Kitan Strait off the coast of Wakayama. Okinoshima, the largest, is the primary destination for visitors. These islands, now part of the Setonaikai National Park, boast a unique combination of natural landscapes and historical remnants.From the Meiji period (1868-1912) through World War II, Tomogashima served as a strategic military site, playing a critical role in defending Osaka Bay.
