Getting There

Bus
If you are in central Kyoto, head to the Kyoto Station bus terminal. Take bus number 100 or 206, which both head towards the Heian Shrine area. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Get off at the 'Okazaki Koen / Bijutsukan' stop. From there, walk approximately 5 minutes east along the road until you reach the main entrance of Heian Shrine, which will be on your left.

Subway and Walking
Take the Kyoto City Subway from Kyoto Station on the Karasuma Line (green line) towards Kokusai Kaikan. Transfer at 'Karasuma Oike' station to the Tozai Line (light blue line) and head towards 'Keage' station. The journey takes about 20 minutes. Once you arrive at 'Keage' station, exit and walk south for about 10 minutes until you reach Heian Shrine.

Bicycle Rental
If you're feeling adventurous, rent a bicycle from one of the many rental shops around Kyoto Station. From there, head east towards Heian Shrine. The ride is approximately 30 minutes as you pedal through the scenic streets of Kyoto. Follow the signs towards 'Okazaki' and look for the large torii gate, which marks the entrance to Heian Shrine.

If you are staying in the nearby area, you can simply walk to Heian Shrine. From the Nanzen-ji Temple, head east and continue walking for about 15 minutes. You will pass through the picturesque Okazaki area, filled with cherry blossom trees, leading you directly to the shrine.
