If you're driving to the Hells of Beppu, start from Beppu city center. Head south on Route 10 and then take Route 216 toward Kannawa. Follow the signs for 'Jigoku' (hells) and you'll reach the parking area at 559-1 Kannawa, Beppu, Oita 874-0000. Be sure to budget for parking fees, as they may vary but generally range from 500 to 1000 yen.
Public Transportation - Train and Bus
From anywhere in Kyushu, take the JR train to Beppu Station. From Beppu Station, exit and find the bus terminal adjacent to the station. Take the 'Jigoku' bus (approximately 300 yen) that goes to the Hells of Beppu. The bus will take you directly to the Hells of Beppu, which is a short ride away. The total travel time from Beppu Station to the Hells is about 20 minutes.
