Getting There

  • Car

    From the center of Nara, head northeast on Route 24 towards Kyoto. Follow this road for about 18 kilometers, which will take approximately 30 minutes. As you approach Uji, continue to follow the signs for Uji on Route 24. Once in Uji, take the exit for Gokasho and turn onto Sanbanwari Street. Hōzen-in Temple will be on your right at Sanbanwari-34-3 Gokasho.

    From Nara Station, take the JR Nara Line towards Kyoto. Get off at Uji Station, which is about a 30-minute ride. Once you arrive at Uji Station, exit the station and walk to the bus stop located outside. Take the Uji City Bus (Uji Gokasho Line) and get off at the Gokasho stop. From there, it's a 10-minute walk to Hōzen-in Temple, which is located at Sanbanwari-34-3 Gokasho. Just head straight down Sanbanwari Street.
