Train
From Nara Station, take the JR Yamatoji Line towards Osaka. Disembark at Kyoto Station, which should take about 45 minutes. Once at Kyoto Station, transfer to the Karasuma Line and take the train towards Kokusaikaikan. Get off at Nijojo-mae Station. From the station, it's a 10-minute walk to Nijō Castle. Exit the station and head north on Sannomaru Drive until you reach the castle entrance.
Bus
From Nara Kotsu Bus Terminal, take the 5 or 6 bus towards Kyoto Station. After approximately 50 minutes, get off at the Kyoto Station stop. From Kyoto Station, board the Karasuma Line subway towards Kokusaikaikan. Disembark at Nijojo-mae Station. The castle is about a 10-minute walk from the station. Exit onto Sannomaru Drive and proceed north until you reach the entrance.
Walking
If you prefer to walk from Nara, head towards Nara Park and exit through the East Gate. Follow the signs to the JR Nara Station. From there, take the train to Kyoto Station as described above. After arriving at Nijojo-mae Station, the castle is a short 10-minute walk. Head north on Sannomaru Drive directly to the castle entrance.
Bicycle
You can rent a bicycle in Nara and ride towards Kyoto, which is about 40 km away. Follow the designated bike paths towards Kyoto. Once you reach Kyoto, park your bike at a bike parking area near Kyoto Station. From there, take the Karasuma Line towards Kokusaikaikan, and get off at Nijojo-mae Station. The castle is a 10-minute walk from the station via Sannomaru Drive.
