Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from Nara Park, walk towards the Nara National Museum. Exit the park heading east towards the main road (Hanazono-dori). Continue straight along this road for about 800 meters. You will reach a large intersection; cross the road and continue straight. After about 300 meters, you will see the entrance to Tōdai-ji on your left, marked by a large wooden gate.

  • Public Transport (Bus)

    From Nara Station, take the Nara Kotsu Bus Number 70, 72, or 73 towards Tōdai-ji Daibutsuden. The bus ride takes approximately 15 minutes. Get off at the Tōdai-ji Daibutsuden stop, which is the closest stop to the temple. From the bus stop, follow the signs to Tōdai-ji, which is just a short 5-minute walk.

  • Walking from Naramachi

    If you are in the historic Naramachi district, start by heading north towards the main road. Once you reach the road, turn right and walk straight for about 1 kilometer. You will pass by several shops and cafes. After about 15 minutes of walking, you will reach the entrance to Tōdai-ji, located on your right side, just before the large wooden gate.
