NARA Evening Foodie Tour with Kashi
What great fun it was to do an Evening Foodie Tour with Kashi of Magic Tours. We took a Taxi to the agreed upon meeting spot near JR Station and we were off touring. We walked through the brightly lit night streets of Nara, on the way to our first Foodie stop. It was a quaint out-of-the-way traditional Japanese restaurant. No tourists were present - pretty hidden away except to locals. We had Maguro Sushi in both the lean and the fatty variety. It came with sides of tasty potato salad and another dish of pickled Japanese veggies. Some Kirin beer and all was perfect. Next, we set off for our 2nd restaurant of the evening. Kashi ushered us into a special out-of-the-way Japanese Bar. Again, no tourists at all (except us !) We decided on having a tasting flight of Nara Sake to sample - and that was a great choice. We had Sake of the 70% and 60% and 40% polished Rice varieties. Sampled some light side dishes, but we were pretty full from the 1st restaurant. Sake tasting went great as Kashi explained the whole process of Sake making. Plus, the Japanese Sake industry traces its roots to Nara - where Saki was first made / how neat. Kashi was so informed regarding Nara and the surrounding areas - being a native son as well. We had an evening of great food, Sake tasting and great education and conversation regarding Nara, Japan and Sake. Super A+++++. You’ve gotta do this tour. You’ll enjoy it ! ! ! ……
