Getting There

  • Car

    If you're driving, start from the center of Nikko, such as from Nikko Station. Head southeast on Route 119. Continue for about 5 kilometers and follow the signs to Toshogu Shrine. Upon reaching the Toshogu Shrine area, park your vehicle at the designated parking lots nearby (note: parking fees may apply). After parking, it's just a short walk to the shrine where the Nemuri-neko (Sleeping Cat) carving is located, within the Yomeimon Gate area of Toshogu Shrine.

  • Public Transportation

    From Nikko Station, take the bus marked 'Toshogu' or 'Kegon Onsen' which departs every 30 minutes. The bus ride takes approximately 15 minutes. Get off at the Toshogu Shrine stop. After disembarking, follow the signs to Toshogu Shrine, which is about a 10-minute walk. Once inside the shrine complex, proceed to the Yomeimon Gate where you will find the Nemuri-neko (Sleeping Cat) carving.

    If you are already in the vicinity of Toshogu Shrine, simply walk to the shrine entrance located at 2301 Sannai. As you enter the shrine complex, head towards the Yomeimon Gate. The Nemuri-neko (Sleeping Cat) carving is located on the left side of this gate, easily visible as you approach.
