If you are driving from Omi to Kinkaku-ji, start by heading towards the nearest expressway entrance, which is likely the Meishin Expressway. Take the Meishin Expressway towards Kyoto and exit at the Kyoto north interchange. Follow the signs for Route 1 and then Route 9 towards Kita Ward. Kinkaku-ji is located at 1 Kinkakujicho, Kita Ward, Kyoto, 603-8361. There is a parking lot available at Kinkaku-ji, but be aware that it may have a fee of approximately 500 yen.

To reach Kinkaku-ji using public transportation from Omi, you will first need to take a train from Omi Station to Kyoto Station. This journey typically takes around 30-40 minutes. Once at Kyoto Station, transfer to the Kyoto City Bus. Take bus number 101 or 205 towards Kinkaku-ji and get off at the Kinkaku-ji Michi stop. From there, it’s a short walk to Kinkaku-ji. The bus fare from Kyoto Station to Kinkaku-ji is around 230 yen.
