Discover more about Kobe Port Tower

Kobe Port Tower, affectionately nicknamed 'Beauty of the Iron Tower,' has been a beloved symbol of Kobe for over half a century. Completed in 1963 to commemorate the Port of Kobe's centennial, the 108-meter-tall tower was designed by Nikken Sekkei Company, who also designed the Tokyo Skytree. Its distinctive shape, inspired by a traditional Japanese hand drum (tsuzumi), makes it a unique structure in the world. The red lattice exterior is reminiscent of the drum's red ropes, especially striking when illuminated at night. The tower underwent renovations and seismic retrofitting, reopening in April 2024 with a redesigned observation area and a new rooftop deck. Visitors can now enjoy 360-degree panoramic views of Kobe, the Rokko Mountains, and the harbor. The observation area features five floors with attractions, including a rotating bar/cafe, an interactive light museum, a gallery, and a souvenir shop. The rooftop deck, called Brilliance Tiara Open-air Deck, offers an open-air experience with glass walls. Kobe Port Tower is more than just a sightseeing spot; it's a symbol of hope and resilience. Following the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, the tower was illuminated to uplift the spirits of the city. Today, it continues to be a beacon, offering stunning views and a reminder of Kobe's enduring spirit.
