Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from any location in Shikoku and head towards the Shikoku Expressway. Follow the signs for the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Expressway (also known as the Seto-Chuo Expressway). After crossing the bridge, continue on the expressway until you reach the intersection for the Sanyo Expressway. Merge onto the Sanyo Expressway heading west towards Hiroshima. Take exit 35 towards Hatsukaichi and follow the signs to the ferry terminal for Itsukushima Island. There is a parking fee of around ¥500-¥1000 at the ferry terminal. Once parked, proceed to the ferry terminal to purchase tickets for the ferry to Itsukushima Island, which costs around ¥1,800 for a round trip.

Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, start by taking a train from any major city in Shikoku, such as Takamatsu or Matsuyama, to Okayama Station. From Okayama Station, transfer to the Sanyo Shinkansen (bullet train) heading towards Hiroshima. Once you arrive at Hiroshima Station, take the JR Sanyo Line to Miyajimaguchi Station. The trip costs approximately ¥5,000-¥6,000 and takes about 2 to 3 hours. At Miyajimaguchi Station, follow the signs to the ferry terminal. Purchase a ticket for the ferry to Itsukushima Island, which costs around ¥1,800 for a round trip. The ferry ride takes about 10 minutes.

Combination of Car and Public Transportation
If you're starting in a more remote area in Shikoku, you can drive to the nearest station on the JR line, such as Takamatsu or Matsuyama, and park your car at the station's parking facility.
