Getting there

Car

If you are traveling by car, start from central Suruga and head towards Route 1. Follow the signs for the Kyoto direction. As you approach Kyoto, take the exit for Kiyomizu-dera. There are designated parking areas near the temple, but parking may incur a fee, usually around 500-1000 yen depending on the duration of your stay. After parking, it's a short walk to the temple entrance.

Train and Bus

For those using public transportation, take the JR Tōkaidō Main Line from Suruga Station to Kyoto Station. This journey takes approximately 2 hours. Once at Kyoto Station, transfer to the Kyoto City Bus #100 or #206 and ride until you reach the Kiyomizu-dera stop. The bus ride will take about 20-30 minutes. From the bus stop, it's a 10-minute walk to Kiyomizu-dera. Be sure to have some coins ready for the bus fare, which is typically around 230 yen.

Taxi

Alternatively, if you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi from central Suruga to Kiyomizu-dera. This option will be more expensive, with fares likely ranging from 10,000 to 15,000 yen, depending on traffic. The taxi will take you directly to the temple entrance, making it a convenient option for families or groups.
