Discover more about Amanohashidate Kasamatsu Park

Amanohashidate Kasamatsu Park, perched on Mt. Nariai, offers a mesmerizing vista of Amanohashidate, a sandbar celebrated as one of Japan's Three Scenic Views. At 130 meters above sea level, the park provides a unique vantage point where the sandbar appears as a dragon ascending to the heavens, known as the 'Shoryukan'. The park is renowned as the birthplace of 'matanozoki,' a playful viewing technique where you bend over and look at the scenery upside down through your legs. This perspective transforms Amanohashidate into a bridge suspended in the sky, offering a whimsical and unforgettable experience. Kasamatsu Park is accessible via a scenic cable car or chairlift ride. The journey itself is an experience, with cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant foliage in autumn. At the summit, AmaTerrace offers dining and shopping with spectacular views. Visitors can savor local delicacies like 'Kasamatsu Dango' and Kyoto-Tamba Highland Pork sausages. Beyond the views, Kasamatsu Park connects to cultural and spiritual sites. A mountain bus from the park provides access to Nariai-ji Temple, the 28th temple on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, known for its stunning scenery. Nearby, discover Motoise Kono Shrine, a historically significant shrine. According to legend, Amanohashidate was a ladder created by the deity Izanagi to connect heaven and earth. One day, while Izanagi napped, the ladder fell, transforming into the sandbar we see today.
