Mototaki Waterfall: A Moss-Covered Cascade

Mototaki Waterfall, also known as Mototaki Fukuryusui Underflow, is a hidden gem located in Nikaho City, Akita Prefecture, Japan. This enchanting waterfall is part of the Mount Chokai Geopark and is easily accessible, making it a prime attraction for nature lovers. The waterfall is fed by the pure, frigid spring water from the melted snow of Mt. Chokai, which flows beneath the earth for 10-20 years before emerging from a ridge formed by volcanic activity over 20,000 years ago. The most striking feature of Mototaki Waterfall is the vibrant green moss that covers the 30-meter wide rock face from which the water springs. This lush moss thrives due to the constant moisture from the waterfall's mist, creating a stunning contrast with the cascading water. The waterfall is not very tall, but its width and the numerous tiny cascades create a mesmerizing spectacle.
