    Getting There

    Public Transport

    From Yamagata Station, take the Yamako Bus bound for Zao Onsen Bus Terminal. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes and costs around ¥1,000 for adults and ¥500 for children. From the Zao Onsen Bus Terminal, it's about a 10-15 minute walk to the Zao Ropeway Sanroku Station. Follow the signs and turn right upon exiting the bus terminal. Cross the bridge, and continue straight. To reach the Okama crater, take the Zao Ropeway from Zao Sanroku Station to Jizo Sancho Station. A round trip ticket to Jizo Sancho Station costs ¥4,200 for adults and ¥2,100 for children. From Jizo Sancho Station, it's about a 45-minute walk to the summit area near the crater. Alternatively, during specific periods (late April to early November), a bus operates from Yamagata Station (via Zao Onsen) to the Kattadake peak. This bus runs daily from August to mid-October and on weekends/holidays from late April to July. The one-way trip from Yamagata Station costs ¥2,250 and takes about 90 minutes. From Zao Onsen, the trip takes one hour. From Kattadake peak, the Okama crater is easily accessible.

    From Zao Onsen Bus Terminal to Zao Ropeway Sanroku Station: Upon exiting the bus terminal, turn right and walk for approximately 10-15 minutes. Follow the main road, cross the bridge, and continue straight. The ropeway station will be on your left. This walk is free.
