Discover more about Sunshine 60

Sunshine 60, located in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, is more than just a skyscraper; it's a landmark that encapsulates the city's vibrant spirit. Completed in 1978, it was once the tallest building in Asia and a symbol of Japan's post-war economic resurgence. Today, it stands as a key component of the Sunshine City complex, offering a blend of commercial, entertainment, and recreational facilities. The building's history is intriguing. It was erected on the former site of Sugamo Prison, where many Japanese war criminals were detained after World War II. This past adds a layer of depth to the site, contrasting with its current role as a hub of leisure and tourism. The highlight of Sunshine 60 is the Tenbou Park observation deck on its 60th floor. Renovated in 2023, it provides 360-degree views of Tokyo's skyline, including landmarks like the Tokyo Skytree and, on clear days, Mount Fuji. The indoor park-like setting, complete with artificial turf and seasonal plantings, creates a relaxing atmosphere for visitors of all ages. The observatory is designed to be an indoor garden in the sky, with perfect conditions 365 days a year. Sunshine City, the complex surrounding Sunshine 60, enhances the experience with its diverse attractions. These include an aquarium, planetarium, museum, shopping center, restaurants, and event spaces.
