  • Public Transport

    From Shinjuku Station, take the Odakyu Electric Railway to Yoyogi-Hachiman Station. The ride is approximately 4 minutes and costs ¥130-¥190. From Yoyogi-Hachiman Station, the shrine is a 5-minute walk. Alternatively, take the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line to Yoyogi-Koen Station, also a 5-minute walk to the shrine.

  • Walking

    From Shibuya Station, Yoyogi Hachimangu Shrine is approximately a 1.4 km walk, taking around 17 minutes. Head northwest, using Meiji-dori Avenue as a guide, until you reach the shrine.

  • Bus

    From Shibuya Station, take the Keio Bus. The bus ride to Yoyogi-Hachiman Station Entrance is about 6 minutes and costs ¥210. From there, it's a short walk to the shrine.

Yoyogi Hachimangu Shrine, nestled in the vibrant Shibuya ward of Tokyo, offers a serene escape from the city's energetic pace. Founded in 1212 by a fugitive Minamoto samurai, the shrine is dedicated to Emperor Ojin, revered as Hachiman, the god of war and protection. As such, Yoyogi Hachimangu is known as a place to pray for warding off evil and good luck.Despite its location in the heart of Tokyo, the shrine maintains a tranquil atmosphere thanks to its dense surrounding trees. The grounds also contain traces of a much older society, with ruins dating back 4,500 years to the Jomon period, a designated cultural property of Shibuya City. A replica of a Jomon period dwelling commemorates this ancient settlement.Visitors can explore the main shrine, admire the historical carvings and statues, and immerse themselves in Shinto rituals and traditions. A smaller shrine, Shusse Inari Daimyojin, is located at the back of the grounds and is popular among those seeking career advancement. Yoyogi Hachimangu hosts annual events, including the Goldfish Festival in May and the Grand Festival in September.
