Discover more about 天空回廊

The Sky Corridor, accessible via the Zao Ropeway, provides breathtaking views from the heart of Zao Onsen. This vantage point offers a panorama of Yamagata Prefecture's natural beauty, changing dramatically with the seasons. In the warmer months, hikers can explore trails leading to the Okama crater lake and the surrounding peaks. During winter, the Sky Corridor transforms into a prime viewing spot for the 'snow monsters' (juhyo), unique ice formations created by heavy snow and freezing winds on the area's conifer trees. Illuminated at night, these formations create a magical winter wonderland. The ropeway itself offers stunning views as it ascends from Zao Onsen town. The Zao area has a history of mountain worship. Today, three gods are enshrined in the mountains of Zao: Zao Jizoson, Zao Daikokuten, and Zao Daigongen. Whether you're seeking panoramic views, access to hiking trails, or a glimpse of the famed snow monsters, the Sky Corridor is a memorable destination.
