Walking
From Petra Visitor Center, head south towards the entrance of the archaeological site. Once you enter, continue straight towards the Siq. Walk through the Siq, which is a narrow gorge that leads to the Treasury. After visiting the Treasury, continue walking along the main path. You will see signs pointing towards the Monastery (Ad Deir). Follow these signs. The path to the Monastery will lead you uphill. After approximately 1.2 kilometers, you will arrive at the Monastery. For accessing the 'Back Door' hiking route, you will need to take the right path heading up from the Monastery, which may involve some steep sections. Ensure you have good footwear and plenty of water.

If you are staying at a hotel in Wadi Musa, exit your hotel and walk towards the main road (Wadi Musa Street). Head towards the Petra Visitor Center. Once there, follow the same directions as above to reach the Monastery. After visiting the Monastery, look for the path leading to the Back Door hiking route which is signposted. The hike will take you through scenic views and may take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours depending on your pace.
