Getting There

Walking
If you are starting from the Petra Visitor Center, exit the building and proceed straight ahead through the main entrance. Follow the path that leads into the Siq, a narrow gorge that stretches for about 1.2 kilometers. The walk through the Siq is a beautiful experience; keep an eye out for the rock formations and ancient carvings along the way. Once you reach the end of the Siq, you will see The Treasury (Al-Khazneh) directly in front of you. The entire walk from the Visitor Center to The Treasury takes approximately 30-45 minutes, depending on your pace and stops along the way.

Consider joining a guided tour that departs from the Petra Visitor Center. These tours typically start early in the morning and will take you through the Siq to The Treasury. A tour guide will provide interesting historical context and details along the way, enhancing your experience. Check the schedule at the Visitor Center for available tours.

For a different experience, you can opt for a horse ride from the Petra Visitor Center to The Treasury. Upon exiting the Visitor Center, head towards the horse stable area where you can hire a horse. The ride will take you along a designated path through the Siq, offering a unique view of the canyon walls. Note that riding may be more expensive than walking, and it's important to negotiate the price beforehand. The horse ride will take about 20 minutes, but it can be less enjoyable if you prefer to take in the sights at a slower pace.
