Motif #1: The Iconic Fishing Shack of Rockport

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from downtown Lawrence, head north on Massachusetts St. Continue straight for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with 9th St. Turn left on 9th St and walk for another 0.3 miles. You will come to the Kansas River. At the river, turn right and follow the river path heading east. After approximately 1 mile, you will reach the intersection with Elm St. Turn left onto Elm St, continue for another 0.2 miles until you reach the intersection with 6th St. Cross over to the other side of 6th St and continue straight for another 0.5 miles until you reach the East Lawrence neighborhood. Follow the signs leading to the Lawrence Loop trail, which will guide you to various landmarks, including Motif #1. You will find it along the waterfront, marked by distinctive red fishing shack buildings.

• Bicycle

  From downtown Lawrence, rent a bike at any local rental shop. Start your journey heading north on Massachusetts St, then take a right on 6th St. Continue for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with the Lawrence Loop trail. Follow the Loop trail heading east along the riverbank. This scenic route will take you directly to the East Lawrence area. As you approach the waterfront, look for signs directing you to Motif #1, which will be visible along the shore, recognized by its iconic red fishing shack design.

• Public Transit

  Begin your journey at the nearest bus stop in Lawrence. Board the bus heading towards the East Lawrence neighborhood. It typically stops at multiple locations along 6th St. After about 15 minutes, disembark at the stop closest to the East Lawrence area. From there, you can follow the pedestrian signs that lead toward the riverfront. Walk along the path for about 0.5 miles, and you will arrive at Motif #1, where you can enjoy the beautiful views of the waterfront.
