Car
If you are traveling by car, start by navigating to Kentucky Route 80 (KY-80). From any point in the Appalachian Plateau, you can reach KY-80 which is a main highway. Once on KY-80, head towards the town of Hazard. After passing Hazard, continue on KY-80 until you reach the junction with KY-15. Merge onto KY-15 North. Follow KY-15 for approximately 10 miles until you reach the junction with KY-114. Take KY-114 and follow it for about 5 miles. Look for signs for Chimney Top Rock as you approach the area. Once you see the signs, turn onto the gravel road that leads to Chimney Top Rock. The gravel road is well-maintained, and it's a short drive (about 15 minutes) to the parking area.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can take a Greyhound or other intercity bus to Hazard, Kentucky. Once in Hazard, you will need to take a local taxi or rideshare service to reach Chimney Top Rock. The taxi service may charge around $20-$30 for the trip, depending on the distance and time of day. Inform the driver to take you to Chimney Top Rock; they should be familiar with this destination. Note that public transportation options may require advance booking and may not have frequent services, so plan accordingly.
Walking/Hiking
Once you have arrived at the parking area near Chimney Top Rock, you may need to walk a short distance to reach the viewing area. There are marked trails leading from the parking area to the rock formation. The walk is approximately 0.5 miles and is relatively easy, taking around 15-20 minutes. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially if you are visiting during warmer months.
