Car
If you're traveling by car, start by getting onto US-27 S from wherever you are in the Bluegrass Region. Once on US-27 S, continue for approximately 70 miles until you reach the junction with KY-80 E. Take the exit for KY-80 E toward Monticello. Continue on KY-80 E for about 14 miles, then turn left onto KY-1651. Follow KY-1651 for 10 miles until you reach Stearns. In Stearns, turn right onto Henderson St, and the Big South Fork Scenic Railway will be on your right at 66 Henderson St. There is parking available on site.
Public Transportation
Public transportation options are limited in this rural area. However, you can take a Greyhound bus to Somerset, KY, which is approximately 30 miles from Stearns. Once you arrive in Somerset, you may need to use a taxi service or a rideshare app to get to Big South Fork Scenic Railway. Ensure to check the bus schedules ahead of time, as they may not run frequently. The taxi ride from Somerset to Stearns will cost approximately $50-$70 depending on the service.
