Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving from Moshi, start on B1 road towards Arusha. After about 30 kilometers, take the exit towards Machame. Continue on Machame road until you reach Machame Gate, which is the starting point for many treks up Kilimanjaro. Here, you will need to park your car. Ensure to register your trek with the Kilimanjaro National Park authorities, which may incur a fee. From Machame Gate, the trek to Nelion usually takes several days, so be prepared with the necessary gear and guides.

  • Public Transportation

    From Moshi, take a daladala (shared minibus) heading towards Machame. The fare is typically around 2,000 TZS. Inform the driver that you want to get off at Machame Gate. Once you arrive, register for your trek with the Kilimanjaro National Park authorities. You'll need a guide for the trek, which can be arranged at the gate or in advance through a local trekking company. The trek to Nelion will take several days, so ensure you are prepared with necessary supplies and clothing.
