Getting There

Car

If you are driving from Moshi, head south on the A23 road towards Arusha. After approximately 35 kilometers, take the exit towards KIA (Kilimanjaro International Airport) and continue on the A104. Keep an eye out for signs to Lake Chala as you approach the town of Taveta. The road will lead you through Taveta and you will have to take a left onto the C102 road. Continue on C102 and then take the turn towards Lake Chala. The lake is about 20 kilometers from Taveta and the last stretch may be unpaved, so drive cautiously.
Public Transportation

From Moshi, take a dala dala (local minibus) heading to Taveta. The journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once in Taveta, you can either hire a taxi or find a local motorbike (boda boda) to take you to Lake Chala. The taxi will cost you around $10-$15, while a boda boda is cheaper but be sure to negotiate the fare beforehand, usually around $3-$5. The final stretch to Lake Chala is about 20 kilometers from Taveta.
Taxi

If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Moshi directly to Lake Chala. This is the most convenient option but also the most expensive, with costs ranging from $50 to $70 depending on negotiation and the time of day. The driver will take you via the A23 and C102 roads, and you can expect the journey to take around 1-1.5 hours.
