Getting There

• Bicycle

  Start from the Mombasa city center. Head south on Moi Avenue until you reach the intersection with Nkrumah Road. Turn left onto Nkrumah Road and continue straight until you reach the ferry terminal. You can take a ferry across to the South Coast. Once you arrive on the other side, continue along the coastal road, following signs towards Diani Beach. Keep an eye out for signs directing you towards the coastal reefs, which are located near Ras Makamaiwe.

• Walking

  From Fort Jesus, head east towards the waterfront. Walk along the beach promenade towards the Nyali area. Continue walking along the coastline until you reach the entrance to the coastal reefs area near Ras Makamaiwe. Make sure to have water and sun protection as it can be quite hot. The reefs are accessible from the beach, so follow the local signage once you get close.

• Public Bus (Matatu)

  Find a matatu station in the city center, specifically along Moi Avenue or near the Old Port. Look for routes heading towards Diani or Likoni. Board the appropriate matatu and inform the driver you want to get off at the Ras Makamaiwe area. After disembarking, walk towards the coast, where you can find the access point to the coastal reefs.

• Taxi or Ride-Hailing Service

  Use a local taxi or a ride-hailing app (such as Uber or Bolt) to request a ride to the location of the coastal reefs at Ras Makamaiwe, Mombasa. Provide the driver with the exact address: 'XM49+J74, Mombasa'. Once you arrive, you can walk towards the beach area where the reefs are located.
