From the main entrance of Mount Elgon National Park, drive towards the park headquarters located near Budadiri. The drive takes approximately 30 minutes. At the park headquarters, you will need to register and pay an entry fee, which is around $40 for foreign visitors. After registration, continue driving towards the trailhead at Sipi Falls, where you can park your car. The trail to Wagagai summit starts at the nearby trailhead.

From the trailhead at Sipi Falls, follow the marked hiking trail leading to Wagagai summit. The trek is challenging and will take approximately 6-8 hours depending on your pace. Ensure you have a local guide, which usually costs around $30 to $50 for a day. The trail is well-marked, but it is advisable to carry a map or GPS device to navigate. The summit is located at coordinates 1.1179428 latitude and 34.5271858 longitude.

If you are using public transportation, take a matatu (shared taxi) from Mbale town to Budadiri, which costs around $1. From Budadiri, you can hire a local guide or a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) to take you directly to the Sipi Falls trailhead for about $5.
