Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving from Mount Kenya, take the A2 road towards Nyeri. Continue on the A2 for about 50 kilometers until you reach the junction for the C77 road. Turn left onto the C77 and follow the signs for Aberdare National Park. The park entrance is approximately 25 kilometers down this road. Be prepared for some rough patches as you get closer to the park. There is an entrance fee of around 300 KES for Kenyan citizens and 1,000 KES for non-residents, which can be paid at the gate.

  • Public Transportation (Matatu)

    To use public transport, first make your way to Nyeri Town. From Mount Kenya, board a matatu (shared taxi) heading to Nyeri. The fare is approximately 100 KES. Once in Nyeri, find the matatus that go to 'Aberdare' or 'Ndaragwa.' The fare for this leg of the journey is about 150 KES. The matatu will drop you off at the nearest point to the park entrance. From there, you may need to hire a boda boda (motorcycle taxi) or walk about 10 kilometers to the entrance of Aberdare National Park.

    If you prefer a more direct route, consider hiring a taxi from your location in Mount Kenya. The taxi fare can range from 3,000 to 5,000 KES depending on your exact starting point. Agree on the fare beforehand. The driver will take you directly to the Aberdare National Park entrance. Remember to account for the entrance fee of 300 KES for Kenyan citizens and 1,000 KES for non-residents.
