Getting There

Car
Start your journey from Nanyuki town, which is a common base for travelers heading towards Mount Kenya. From Nanyuki, take the A2 highway towards Nyeri. After about 12 kilometers, turn onto the B5 road towards the Mount Kenya National Park entrance. Follow the signs to the park entrance and pay the entrance fee (approximately Ksh 1,500 for non-residents). Once inside the park, continue on the main road until you reach the junction for the Ndurumuru route. This is about 20 kilometers from the park entrance. Follow the signs for Ndurumuru, and after approximately 5 kilometers, you will arrive at the Red Stones area.

Public Transportation
From Nanyuki, take a matatu (shared taxi) heading to Nyeri. It will cost around Ksh 150. Get off at the junction for the Mount Kenya National Park entrance. From there, you can hire a local taxi to take you to the park entrance (costs around Ksh 500). Once you enter the park (entrance fee of Ksh 1,500 for non-residents), ask the taxi driver to take you to the Ndurumuru trailhead. If you prefer, you can also hire a local guide at the entrance to help you navigate the trails leading to the Red Stones.

Hiking
If you are already at the Ndurumuru trailhead, you can hike to the Red Stones. The hike is moderately challenging and takes about 2-3 hours. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks. Follow the marked trail that leads through the forest and up to the rocky outcrops. The views of the surrounding landscape as you ascend are breathtaking. Ensure you have a map or guide as the trails can be less distinct in some areas.
