Depending on your exact location in the Turkana Basin, you may need to navigate towards the nearest town or landmark that connects to this highway. For example, if you are in Lodwar, head towards the A1 highway which runs towards Kitale. Once on the A1, continue traveling south for approximately 250 kilometers. You will pass through towns like Kapenguria and eventually reach the turn-off towards Mirera, which is directly associated with the Rift Valley. The journey will take around 4-5 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. Make sure your vehicle is in good condition as the roads can be rough in certain areas. There may be tolls along the route, so keep some cash handy.

For those preferring public transportation, start by taking a matatu (shared taxi) from Lodwar to Kitale. The journey to Kitale will take around 5-6 hours, with several stops along the way. Once in Kitale, you will need to transfer to another matatu going towards Mirera. The matatus to Mirera may not run frequently, so be prepared to wait for a while. The trip from Kitale to Mirera should take approximately 1-2 hours. Make sure to confirm with the driver that they will stop at the Rift Valley viewpoint. The total cost for this journey can vary, but expect to spend around 1500-2500 KES for the entire trip, depending on the matatu and the distance.
