Discovered in April 2004 by a local villager named Mr. Boun Nong, who was hunting bats, the cave houses an impressive collection of over 200 bronze Buddha statues. These statues, ranging from 15 cm to over 1 meter in height, are believed to be up to 500 years old and originate from the Sikhottabong and Lane Xang eras, with some possibly of Khmer and Vietnamese origin. The cave itself is a geological marvel, adorned with intricate stalactites and stalagmites shaped over millennia. The serene environment within the cave provides a tranquil space for exploration, meditation, and photography. Soft daylight filters through natural openings, illuminating the unique rock formations and creating a mystical ambiance.Visitors can explore the cave's chambers, each revealing different facets of nature's artistry. The cave also holds spiritual importance, housing altars and shrines that reflect local beliefs and practices. It is considered a religious site, and visitors are encouraged to dress modestly. The cave is named after the lake at the foot of the cliff, Nong Pa Fa, meaning “Lake of Soft-Shelled Turtle”.While some find the cave somewhat underwhelming due to the limited access to the statues and the "improvements" like walkways and lighting, the surrounding scenery and the story of the cave's discovery make it a worthwhile visit.
