Phou Tham Nam: A Majestic Peak in Laos

Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving, start on Route 6 from your location in Northwest Vietnam. Continue until you reach the border crossing at Nam Can, and proceed to enter Laos. Once in Laos, follow Route 13 North towards Vientiane. After approximately 200 km, look for Route 8 East towards Paksan. Continue on Route 8 until you reach the junction with Route 12. Turn onto Route 12, and after about 120 km, you'll arrive in the vicinity of Phou Tham Nam. Look for local signs indicating the mountain peak, which is located at latitude 17.4833 and longitude 104.9000.

• Bus

  For public transportation, take a bus from a major city in Northwest Vietnam, like Sapa or Lai Chau, to Vinh city. The bus fare typically ranges from 200,000 to 300,000 VND. Once in Vinh, change to a bus heading to Paksan, Laos. The fare for this leg is approximately 150,000 VND. After reaching Paksan, you can hire a local taxi or motorbike to take you to Phou Tham Nam, which is about a 30-minute drive away. Be sure to confirm the fare beforehand, as it may vary.

• Taxi/Motorbike

  If you are already in Paksan, you can hire a taxi or a motorbike taxi to reach Phou Tham Nam. The trip will take around 30 minutes. The fare for a taxi should be negotiated, but expect to pay around 100,000 to 150,000 VND for the ride. If you choose a motorbike taxi, the fare may be slightly lower, around 80,000 to 100,000 VND. Make sure to confirm the price before you depart.
