Getting There

  • Taxi

    Taxis are readily available from the Golden Triangle area to Bokeo International Airport. Ensure you negotiate the fare before starting your journey, with typical costs around 200,000 LAK. The trip usually takes approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Bokeo International Airport via public transport from the Golden Triangle, take a local bus or tuk-tuk to the main bus station. From there, catch a bus to Tonpheung district for around 20,000 LAK. Upon arrival in Tonpheung, a tuk-tuk can take you to the airport for 10,000-15,000 LAK.

  • Car

    If driving from the Golden Triangle, head northwest on Route 3 towards Tonpheung district. Continue for about 30 kilometers until the junction for Simuangngam village. Turn right and follow the signs for Bokeo International Airport, which is about 5 kilometers down this road on your left. Parking is available at the airport.

Bokeo International Airport (BOR) is a newly constructed airport in the Tonpheung district of Bokeo Province, Laos, opening its doors in February 2024. Situated approximately 5 km from the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, the airport is strategically positioned to cater to the increasing influx of tourists and business travelers. Built on an area of 314 hectares, the airport features a 2,700-meter runway, expandable to 3,000 meters, capable of handling aircraft like the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737. The passenger terminal can accommodate up to 600 people at a time, with an expected annual capacity of 1.5 to 2 million passengers. Bokeo International Airport is the third largest airport in Laos, after Wattay International Airport in Vientiane and Luang Prabang International Airport. The airport currently operates domestic flights to and from Vientiane and Luang Prabang. While there are currently no international flights, the airport is expected to expand its international routes in the future. Facilities include souvenir shops and comfortable waiting areas.
