Discover more about Daugavpils Skrošu rūpnīca

The Daugavpils Shot Factory offers a unique glimpse into the history of ammunition production. Founded in 1885, it's the oldest factory of its kind in Northern Europe and the only one in the Baltics accessible to visitors. Originally established by M. Resler from Minsk, the factory sought the highest, driest location in the city. The original wooden tower, used for casting lead, was destroyed by fire in 1911 and replaced with the brick tower that stands today. Before World War I, the factory produced over 70 tons of shots annually. The factory faced many challenges throughout the 20th century, including damage during World War II. It was rebuilt and continued production, supplying shot to the USSR. Visitors can witness the shot manufacturing process and explore historical equipment. The 31.5-meter shot tower, with its 13.5-meter cooling well, offers panoramic city views. The factory also houses a museum complex detailing its history and the resilience of its workers.
