Discover more about Globe

The Jūrmala Globe, situated at the crossing of Turaidas Street and Jomas Street, stands as a historical and symbolic landmark for the city. First erected in the early 1970s near the Dzintari Concert Hall, it quickly became a recognizable symbol of Jūrmala. The globe features copper panels that adorn the equators and meridians, with illuminated circles highlighting Jūrmala's twin cities since the 1970s. Over time, the globe suffered erosion and was removed for repairs. A renovation in 2003, costing ABLV Charitable Foundation, restored its motion and illumination mechanisms, allowing it to revolve on its axis once again. The restoration involved certified metal artist Ainārs Sils, who used galvanized steel to protect the load-bearing structure. Today, the Jūrmala Globe not only serves as a visual representation of the city's global connections but also as a reminder of its history and cultural significance.
