Discover more about Маяк Pape lighthouse

The Pape Lighthouse (Papes bāka) is a significant maritime landmark on the Latvian coast of the Baltic Sea. Erected in 1910, it replaced an earlier wooden structure from 1887. The lighthouse is located in Rucava County, near Pape village, and close to the Lithuanian border. Historically, the lighthouse served as a boundary beacon, guiding ships to Liepāja port and marking the border between Tsarist Russia and Prussia. The current structure is a white, tube-like cylinder supported by a riveted iron frame. It stands 22 meters tall, with the light at a focal height of 26 meters, and a range of 14 nautical miles. While the lighthouse is currently closed to the public, its surroundings offer a peaceful retreat. The adjacent beach provides opportunities for relaxation, sunbathing, and scenic walks. The Pape Nature Park nearby is ideal for birdwatching and exploring diverse wildlife. The lighthouse is closest to the sea compared to other lighthouses in Latvia. Over time, the coastline has eroded, bringing the lighthouse closer to the water's edge.
