Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Sigulda, walk towards the Sigulda bobsleigh track. Continue along Pils iela, until you reach the intersection with Krimuldas iela. Turn left onto Krimuldas iela and walk for approximately 1 km. Krimulda Castle will be on your right. Walking to Krimulda Castle provides scenic views of the Gauja River Valley. Note that the walk is approximately 3 km and will take around 37 minutes.

  • Public Transport

    From Sigulda bus station, take bus number 3112 towards Krimulda. The bus will take you directly to Krimulda. Get off at the 'Krimulda' stop. Walk about 300 meters along Krimuldas iela towards the castle. The bus journey takes approximately 15 minutes and costs between $1 and $2. Buses depart hourly.

  • Cable Car

    Take the Sigulda cable car from Sigulda across the Gauja River to Krimulda. From the Krimulda cable car station, it is a short walk to the castle ruins. A one-way ticket for adults costs €14 and a return ticket costs €19. The cable car ride offers panoramic views of the Gauja River Valley, Turaida Castle, and Sigulda.

Krimulda Castle, located just outside Sigulda, offers a captivating journey into Latvia's medieval past. Built in the 13th century by the Riga High Council, the castle served as a strategic stronghold on the right bank of the Gauja River. Its elevated position and natural defenses made it nearly impossible to conquer. Over the centuries, Krimulda Castle was involved in numerous battles, including those between the Livonian Order and the Archbishop of Riga. In 1601, during the Polish-Swedish War, the castle was burned down by retreating Swedish troops to prevent it from falling into enemy hands.
