Krimulda Manor, or Krimuldas Muiža, is located on the edge of the Gauja River valley in Sigulda, Latvia. This elegant manor house, built in the mid-19th century, showcases Neoclassical architecture and offers visitors a unique glimpse into the region's aristocratic past. The estate's history dates back to the 15th century when a craftsman's town developed near the medieval castle. In 1817, Count Johann Georg von Lieven acquired the estate, believing it was connected to the ancient Livonian leader Kaupo. The Lieven family constructed the manor house around 1848, creating a residence befitting their status and establishing a romantic landscape park. The manor remained in the Lieven family until the agrarian reforms of the early 20th century. In 1921, the Latvian Red Cross took over the estate and established a sanatorium in 1922. From 1952, the sanatorium specialized in treating children with femoral head injuries, achieving an impressive 84% recovery rate. Today, Krimulda Manor offers visitors a chance to explore its historic buildings, including the manor house, manager's house, and former Swiss house with unique carvings. The surrounding park provides a tranquil setting for walks and offers breathtaking views of the Gauja valley.
