Discover more about Hamra Urban Gardens

Hamra Urban Gardens (HUG) is more than just a hotel; it's a community hub located in the heart of Beirut's bustling Hamra district. Opened in August 2016, HUG occupies half of the Estral Center, a space originally intended to be a hotel in the 1970s but was never completed due to the Lebanese Civil War. During the war, the building was occupied by refugees and militias, with the rooftop pool even being used for water storage. In January 2016, renovations began under the leadership of self-taught architect Mac McClenahan and his partner Nazih Dirani, transforming the concrete shell into the vibrant space it is today. HUG features a hotel with spacious rooms, a gym (Muscle Up Workshop), a Lebanese restaurant (Bayt Em Nazih), and a rooftop pool and bar (Pool d'Etat). The hotel offers a mix of private and shared rooms, creating a unique community vibe. The rooftop pool is a highlight, offering a tranquil oasis with a bar and kitchen serving poolside refreshments. Bayt Em Nazih, the on-site restaurant, serves homemade Lebanese classics and has become a local favorite, especially in the evenings when live bands play Arabic standards. Hamra Urban Gardens is conveniently located near restaurants, cafes, and local attractions, making it easy to explore the area. The hotel also showcases local art and crafts, providing guests with a taste of Beirut's contemporary art scene.
