Discover more about Küefer-Martis-Huus

The Küefer-Martis-Huus, located in Ruggell, is more than just a museum; it's a vibrant cultural hub that bridges the gap between history and the present. This well-preserved Rheintal farmhouse, dating back to 1731, was acquired by the municipality of Ruggell in 1997 and designated as a protected monument in 1999. After extensive renovations, it opened its doors as a museum and cultural center in 2002. The house derives its name from Martin Biedermann, who purchased it in 1862 and was known as 'Küefer Marti'. The name 'Küefer' refers to his grandfather, Josef Biedermann, who worked as a cooper. The original baroque farmhouse features a traditional layout, including a kitchen, living room with a tiled stove, and a bedroom, all meticulously restored to reflect the living conditions of the time. The upper floors and attic are now used for exhibitions focusing on regional themes. In place of the former barn, a modern structure called the 'Kulturtenn' was added, providing a space for a wide range of cultural activities, including exhibitions by regional artists, readings, lectures, discussions, and community events. The museum's exhibits highlight the importance of water to Liechtenstein, particularly the Rhine River's influence on the region. The Küefer-Martis-Huus hosts various events and exhibitions throughout the year, offering visitors a glimpse into the local culture and history. It serves as a meeting point for locals and visitors alike, fostering a sense of community and preserving the region's heritage.
