Overview

Bad Ragaz, a gem in the southeastern corner of St. Gallen, bordering Graubünden and near Liechtenstein, has been a celebrated spa destination since its thermal springs were discovered in 1242. Legend says that hunters from Pfäfers Abbey stumbled upon warm waters gushing from the Tamina Gorge, setting the stage for Bad Ragaz's transformation into a haven for wellness. In 1716, the first baroque bathhouse in Switzerland was constructed near the Benedictine Monastery in Pfäfers. By 1840, the thermal waters were piped to the village of Ragaz, making it more accessible and solidifying its reputation as a health resort. Luxury hotels emerged to cater to wealthy travelers, including Russian nobility, and continue to welcome guests from around the globe. The Tamina Therme, established in 1872, was the first indoor thermal water pool in Europe. Fed by the 36.5°C thermal water from the Tamina Gorge, the spa offers a range of pools, including the historic Helena pool, a sports pool, a garden pool, a family spa, and a sauna area. These waters are believed to treat circulatory diseases, rheumatism, and symptoms of paralysis.Beyond the spas, Bad Ragaz offers a variety of activities. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy the scenic Golf Club Bad Ragaz. Hiking and cycling trails wind through the alpine landscape in the summer, while skiing is popular in the winter. The village is also close to attractions like the Heidi Village, the Tamina Gorge, and the Pizol region.
