From Appenzell, take the Appenzeller Railway to Wasserauen station, the last stop on the line. The valley station of the Ebenalp cable car is a short, 2-minute walk from the train station. Trains run regularly from Gossau and St. Gallen. A single train fare from Appenzell to Wasserauen is approximately CHF 4. Discounted fares are available with a Swiss Travel Pass.

From Appenzell, drive via Steinegg and Weissbad to Wasserauen. Follow signs for the Ebenalp cable car. Ample metered parking is available near the cable car station. Parking costs CHF 5 per day. Walking
For experienced hikers, a challenging trail leads from Wasserauen to Ebenalp. Follow the signs towards Ebenalp, passing along the Schwendebach stream and through the Blättli forest. The ascent is steep, gaining over 700 meters in elevation. The hike takes approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. Upon reaching the top, you can take the cable car back down to Wasserauen for CHF 24.
