Heidiweg: A Journey into Heidi's World

The Heidiweg, or Heidi Trail, is more than just a hiking path; it's a journey into the heart of Johanna Spyri's timeless tale of Heidi. Located in Maienfeld, the very village that inspired the Heidi novels, this well-marked trail offers visitors a chance to experience the landscape that shaped the story of the cheerful, nature-loving orphan girl. The trail begins at the Maienfeld railway station and winds its way through the historic town, allowing you to soak in the traditional Swiss architecture and atmosphere. As you leave the town behind, the path leads you through picturesque vineyards, a testament to the region's winemaking heritage. The northernmost tip of Graubünden is known for its fine wines, with around 70 wineries cultivating and selling approximately 42 grape varieties. The highlight of the Heidiweg is undoubtedly the ascent to Heididorf, Heidi's village. This charming collection of mountain houses recreates the setting of the story, complete with a village shop and a herd of goats. From Heididorf, the trail continues to the Hotel Restaurant Heidihof, boasting a large panoramic terrace with breathtaking views of the Alps and the valley below.
