Getting There
Car
If you are traveling by car from the center of Franklin County, Maine, head east on ME-2 E. Continue on ME-2 E for approximately 25 miles until you reach the junction with ME-3 E. Take the exit towards Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park and merge onto ME-3 E. Follow ME-3 E for about 30 miles, passing through the towns of Ellsworth and Mount Desert Island. Once you arrive in Bar Harbor, follow the signs for Acadia National Park. The park entrance is located at 20 Acadia National Park Loop Road, Bar Harbor, ME 04609. Note that there is an entry fee for the park, which is $30 per vehicle, valid for 7 days.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Farmington to Bangor, which is operated by the Concord Coach Lines. Once in Bangor, you will need to transfer to the Downeast Transportation bus that goes directly to Bar Harbor. The total travel time may take around 4 to 5 hours, depending on connections. Upon arriving in Bar Harbor, you can either walk or take a local shuttle service to Acadia National Park. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may vary based on the season.
Bicycle
For the adventurous, biking from Franklin County to Acadia National Park is an option, although it requires good fitness and planning. Start by taking ME-2 E and then ME-3 E as described above, but be cautious, as these roads can be busy. The distance is about 55 miles, and it could take around 4-5 hours depending on your pace. Ensure you have the proper gear for a long ride, and consider staying overnight in Bar Harbor if you wish to explore the park extensively.
