Hi, I'm Eve. Here are a few practical things to know before exploring Sargent Peak.
Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are driving, start by heading towards Acadia National Park. From Bar Harbor, take Route 3 south towards Mount Desert. Once you reach the entrance to Acadia National Park, pay the entrance fee (approximately $30 for a vehicle, valid for 7 days). After entering the park, follow Park Loop Road and look for the signs leading to the Jordan Pond area. Park your vehicle at the Jordan Pond parking area.
Hiking
From the Jordan Pond parking area, look for the Sargent Mountain Trailhead. The trail begins near the Jordan Pond house. Follow the Sargent Mountain Trail, which is approximately 3.5 miles to the summit of Sargent Peak. The hike is moderately difficult, so wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring water and snacks. The trail provides beautiful views of the surrounding area.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take the Island Explorer bus service. Board the bus at any designated stop in Bar Harbor or surrounding areas. The bus will take you to the Jordan Pond area (check the current schedule and routes at the Island Explorer website). Once you arrive at the Jordan Pond stop, follow the same directions for hiking from the Jordan Pond parking area to the Sargent Mountain Trailhead.
