Start from the center of Franklin County. Head towards Portland via ME-4 S. Follow signs for I-295 S to Portland. Once in Portland, take the exit for Congress St and follow signs for the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal. Park your car in the parking lot near the terminal (note that parking may incur a daily fee). After parking, take the ferry to Peaks Island. The ferry ride takes about 20-30 minutes.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take a bus from Franklin County to Portland. The closest bus station is in Farmington, ME. From Farmington, take a bus to Portland. Once in Portland, walk or take a local bus to the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal. After reaching the terminal, purchase a ticket for the ferry to Peaks Island. The ferry ride takes about 20-30 minutes.

Once you arrive at the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal in Portland, check the ferry schedule for Peaks Island. Purchase your round-trip ticket at the terminal. Board the ferry; it typically departs every 1-2 hours. Enjoy the scenic ride across the bay to Peaks Island.
Walking
Upon arriving at Peaks Island, you can walk to Battery Steele. From the ferry dock, head north on Island Ave, then take a left on to Seashore Ave. Continue until you reach a sign for Battery Steele. The landmark is approximately a 15-minute walk from the ferry dock.
