Car
If you are driving, start on Route 1 in Hancock County. Head south on Route 1 towards Ellsworth and continue until you reach the intersection with Route 3. Take Route 3 south towards Bar Harbor. Follow Route 3 until you reach the junction with Route 1A. Turn right onto Route 1A and continue until you reach the Cape Elizabeth area. Turn left onto Captain Strout Circle. Fort Williams will be on your right at 12 Captain Strout Cir, Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107. There is no entry fee to visit Fort Williams.
Public Transportation
To reach Fort Williams using public transportation, you will need to take a bus from Ellsworth to Portland. From the Concord Coach Lines bus station in Ellsworth, take a bus heading to Portland. Once in Portland, transfer to the local public bus service (METRO) and take the bus that goes toward Cape Elizabeth. The closest stop to Fort Williams is on Route 77. From there, it is about a 15-minute walk to Fort Williams, located at 12 Captain Strout Cir, Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107. Be sure to check the bus schedule for the most current times and routes, as they may vary.
Taxi or Rideshare
If you prefer a more direct route, consider taking a taxi or rideshare service such as Uber or Lyft. You can call for a taxi in Hancock County or use the rideshare app to request a ride.
