Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Millinocket, Maine. Head west on Katahdin Avenue (Route 11) and continue for about 5 miles. Then, take a left on to the Golden Road (Route 11) and drive for approximately 9 miles. You will see signs for Baxter State Park. Enter the park, where there is a fee of $15 per vehicle (as of October 2023). Follow the park road until you reach the parking area for the Appalachian Trail Northern Terminus, located at Knife Edge Trail. The GPS coordinates for the terminus are 45.9044227, -68.9214706.

Public Transportation
If you're using public transportation, you can take a bus from Bangor to Millinocket. The service is provided by Concord Coach Lines. Once you arrive in Millinocket, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to Baxter State Park, as public transport does not go directly to the park. The fare for a taxi could range from $30 to $50 depending on the distance. Once at the park entrance, remember to pay the $15 vehicle fee. After entering, follow the park road to the Knife Edge Trail parking area, your destination.
