Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start by heading south on Route 1 from any location in Washington County. Depending on where you are, you may take Route 1A or Route 9 to connect to Route 1. Continue on Route 1 for approximately 90 miles until you reach Portland. As you enter Portland, follow signs for I-295 South. Take the exit for Congress Street, and keep right to merge onto Congress Street. The Portland Observatory will be on your left at 138 Congress St.

• Public Transportation

  To use public transportation, you can take a local bus service from various locations in Washington County to Portland. Check the Downeast Transportation website for the latest schedules. Once you arrive in Portland, transfer to the Greater Portland Metro bus service. Take the bus that goes toward the Old Port area and disembark at the Congress Street stop. From there, it is a short walk to the Portland Observatory located at 138 Congress St. Be sure to check the bus fare and schedule in advance.

• Walking

  If you are already in downtown Portland and prefer to walk, you can easily reach the Portland Observatory from any central location. From the Old Port area, head east on Commercial Street toward Congress St. Turn right onto Congress Street and walk for about 0.5 miles. The Portland Observatory will be on your left at 138 Congress St.
